Title: Implementation of SOA Paradigms in Manufacturing Systems
Supervisor: Professor Theodor BORANGIU
Start date: 2010
The thesis consists in design and implementation of a intelligent control framework for manufacturing systems based on Manufacturing Service Bus concept. The implementation is done using a multi agent system (JADE/WARE) and consists in developing of intelligent agents for each resource involved in the production process. The agents are communicating through a central bus where the global production information is consolidated and workflows are initiated. The framework design is generic so that it can be adapted and implemented for controlling any kind of production systems.
The main advantages offered by this framework are flexibility and scalability of the manufacturing systems. These systems show a high flexibility by assuring a loose coupling between involved modules, allowing a plugin like intregration of new manufacturing resources, scheduling algorithms, etc. On the other hand, scalability is assured by leveraging a central bus where new resources can be plugged in having a linear impact on production. At the control level, scalability is assured by introducing the usage of a cloud computing system in the manufacturing domain.
