IFAC Workshop on Intelligent Assembly and Disassembly – IAD’03, Bucharest, Romania, October 9 – 11, 2003. The workshop highlighted the issue, showed the actual results of the research and development work, set the direction of future development, and analysed the possibility of introducing intelligent assembly and disassembly methods, techniques and systems into production processes. The Technical Program Committee has defined an outstanding program in quality and diversity. A number of 36 papers have been selected for presentation in three plenary sessions and seven regular sessions, involving 82 authors from 9 countries. The session topics reflect the trends of: assembly – and disassembly planning and optimization, agile manufacturing and integrated logistics systems, robotics solutions for assembly and disassembly, non-destructive disassembly for de-manufacturing, manufacturing control applications, vision systems in assembly, high-accuracy robotized assembling, multi-agent assembly systems, and educational systems in assembly.
