Title: Service Oriented Computing - Cloud Technology, PAAS Developement on IBM Cloudburst

Supervisor: Professor Theodor BORANGIU
Start date: 2011

Organizations are increasingly turning to private cloud computing environments to combat rising cost, increasing complexity, and burgeoning management overhead in enterprise data centers. Private clouds build on automation, virtualization, and standardization to attack many of the inefficiencies enterprises encounter within their current environments.

The main objectives of this PhD is to study IBM Cloudburst solution and to propose an environment able to transparently manage resources for dynamic-data-driven applications. The work will have to tackle specific issues such as handling on-the-fly provisioning of resources suitable to one given application, as well as their reservation, deployment and execution of processes

The first goal is to develop a software application using the latest J2EE technologies in order to enhance the existing IBM provided tool TSAM(Tivoli Service Automation Manager). The product will have to provides proper role based authorisation, automated provisioning, management, and deprovisioning of cloud resources, comprised of hardware servers, networks, operating systems, middleware, and application-level software.
